Course Introduction
This course provides participants with the essential knowledge and skills to understand and apply the Control of Substances Hazardous to Health (COSHH) Regulations. It focuses on the safe handling, storage, use, and disposal of hazardous substances in the workplace, enabling participants to identify risks, implement control measures, and ensure compliance with both UK HSE guidelines and UAE OSHAD requirements.
Through a combination of theory and practical examples, participants will learn how exposure to hazardous substances can affect health, and how to reduce or eliminate these risks using appropriate control strategies, personal protective equipment (PPE), and safe systems of work.
The course is designed to raise awareness among employees, supervisors, and safety officers, ensuring that all staff working with or around hazardous substances can perform their duties safely and in compliance with legal and regulatory frameworks.
Learning Objectives
By the end of this training, participants will be able to:
- Understand the COSHH Regulations 2002 (as amended) and their application in the workplace.
- Identify hazardous substances commonly found in workplaces and understand their health effects.
- Interpret warning labels, safety data sheets (SDS), and hazard symbols correctly.
- Assess risks associated with hazardous substances and recognize routes of exposure.
- Apply appropriate control measures including engineering controls, safe systems of work, and use of PPE.
- Follow safe procedures for handling, storage, transportation, and disposal of hazardous substances.
- Respond effectively to incidents and emergencies involving hazardous substances.
- Promote a culture of safety and compliance with HSE UK guidelines and UAE OSHAD standards.
