Course Introduction

This course provides participants with the essential knowledge and skills to safely handle, prepare, and ship dangerous goods by sea in compliance with the International Maritime Dangerous Goods (IMDG) Code.

The training covers classification, packaging, marking, labeling, placarding, documentation, stowage, segregation, and emergency response procedures, ensuring compliance with IMO, SOLAS, and MARPOL requirements.

It is designed for professionals involved in shipping, handling, and transporting dangerous goods by vessel, and is required to be refreshed every three years in line with international regulations.

Learning Objectives

By the end of this training, participants will be able to:

  • Classify dangerous goods in accordance with the IMDG Code.
  • Identify the correct Proper Shipping Names (PSN) and corresponding UN numbers for dangerous goods.
  • Pack dangerous goods using compliant packaging instructions and requirements.
  • Mark and Label dangerous goods packages correctly.
  • Placard Cargo Transport Units (CTUs) with appropriate hazard placards.
  • Understand, Load, and Unload Cargo Transport Units (CTUs) safely in compliance with segregation and stowage rules.
  • Prepare and Verify the required transport documentation for dangerous goods, including the Multimodal Dangerous Goods Declaration (MDGD).
